Help And Advice

  • Plants not to plant

To make sure your cat (or any other pet) is safe in your garden, you should not grow any of the following toxic flowers or plants:

Lilies, Daffodils, Deadly nightshade, Ivy, Privet, Rhododendrons, Irises, Cyclamen, Poinsettia, Amaryllis, Laburnum, Yew, Chrysanthemums, Crocuses, Geraniums.

All parts of these plants have the potential to be toxic.

Owners should contact their vet at the first sign of poisoning.

  • Shops and cars

There has been a spate of dogs being stolen, particularly from outside shops and from cars.

In some cases dogs have been re-united with owners after payment of a large "reward", but only after a great deal of distress for both dogs and owners.

Take care to ensure that your pet does not become the next victim.

Please do not leave your dog unattended anywhere at any time.

No dog is safe - pedigrees and mongrels alike are at risk.

  • Staffordshire Bull Terriers

I would like to high-light the plight of Staffordshire Bull Terriers who have become one of the most abandoned abused and unwanted animals.

They have been over bred by breeders and back-street breeders and now animal rescue centres are overflowing with them.

Staffies do not kennel well and pine terribly for human company.

The females have the reputation of being 'nanny' dogs as they are usually so good with children.

If anyone is thinking of acquiring this breed, please go to a reputable Animal Charity rather than encourage breeders to continue exploiting them.

There are already far too many brought into the world and not nearly enough homes available for them.

At Holly Hedge we have sweet natured Staffies of all ages who are not coping well with life behind bars and deserve a chance of happiness.

Please pay us a visit and come to meet them, they would be so pleased not to get passed by.
