What are your opening times?

Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary is open from 11am until 4pm every day except Tuesday's when we shut at 2pm. Members of the public are welcome to visit us during these hours without an appointment.

We recommend that you leave yourself plenty of time to have a look around and to talk to our staff about any of the animals that you may have met.  

How do I find the sanctuary?

We are located along Wild Country Lane in Barrow Gurney, just outside of Bristol. Please see our contact us page to find a map and directions.

How does the rehoming process work?

Please see our Adoption Process to find further details about adopting an animal from us. 

How long does it take to arrange a home visit?

We aim to carry out all of our home visits within 3 - 5 days. We rely heavily on our dedicated team of volunteers to carry out our home visits, so please do be patient if your home check takes a little bit longer, it may be that we have limited volunteer resources in your area. If you haven't heard from your home visitor within 7 days please do then contact our Rehoming team on 01275 474 719 (11am - 4pm) 

How much do you charge for a cat?

I'm having behavioural problems with my pet – can you help?

We are passionate about happy pets and happy owners! Whether you have rehomed a pet from us and are experiencing behavioural difficulties, or are thinking about giving your pet up due to behavioural problems we can help with advice and ideas, as well as putting you in contact with experienced and professional experts in your local area. 

Will you take my pet? 

If you have made the very hard decision that you need to rehome your pet, then you will need to call our Rehoming team. They will go through a pet intake form with you, and explain the process. Please note we have waiting lists for both cats and dogs needing to be rehomed.

I've lost my pet – who do I call?  

We keep details of all pets reported missing to us, you can contact us on 01275 474 719 to see if your pet has been handed in. it is also advisable to contact local vets/council dog wardens and local rescues to see if your pet has been handed in. You could also put leaflets/posters through people's doors in case your pet is locked or hiding in a garage/shed. 

I've found a stray dog – what should I do?

If you find a stray dog you should take him/her to your local vet who will be able to scan them to see if they are micro-chipped and also phone your local dog warden. 

I've found a stray cat – what should I do?

If you find a stray cat you should take him/her to your local vet who will be able to scan them to see if they are micro-chipped. If no chip is found we can place them on our waiting list, call us on 01275 474 719. 

I've found an injured animal – what should I do?

If you have found an injured wild animal we recommend contacting Secret World Wildlife Rescue on 01278 783 250. 

Can I volunteer to walk your animals?

Yes! We welcome help with all aspects of running the Sanctuary, from dog walking and cat cuddling to helping out in reception. Please see our Volunteer Section on the website for further information.  

What household items and plants are toxic to my pet?

Visit Reuben's Pet Care Centre to find details about toxic house items/plants and a whole host of other information to help you care for your pet. 

Can you look after my pet whilst I'm on holiday?

Unfortunately we are unable to offer boarding spaces for pets. 

Do you have any puppies?

We do often have puppies looking for new homes at the Sanctuary, please view the Our Animals section of the website, we try to keep this as up to date as possible.
